Once in a while I miss playing music. It was fun. I was crazy and obnoxious and it was nice to for a shy girl to feel like a rock star onstage.
So when some friends mentioned that they might want my old band Chuck Marten to get together for a reunion show, I said “Why not”?

I think it’ll be sometime late this summer, or early fall. We’re trying to get some of the original people to sign on. (There was kind of a revolving door thing happening with singers and drummers)
In the mean time, I need to dust off my old bass and hope like hell I remember how to play!

At what I’ve been doing lately? Marc blogs a blog about a super secret weekend!

http://www.lebryk.com/friends/in-the-barn/

NRG won a double header against Brew City Saturday night. But the most important thing? There was a tee-shirt cannon.

which meant that I got to pretend I was one of those hot chicks in “Sucker Punch” for a minute.

And at the bout, there was THIS girl.

who was wearing an Amanda Effing Palmer WE ARE THE MEDIA shirt. All of that combined meant that the entire night was just full of win!

Way to go Naptown! Way to go tee shirt cannon! And way to go awesome Amanda Palmer fan!!!

Last weekend I made the trek to see the Naptown Roller Girls Third Alarm play the Chippewa Valley Roller Girls. Booked a flight, and after much twitter hilarity found Lorraine awaiting me at the MN airport.

She took me to see her boss man, who made us dinner, and ended up asking to go along to the roller derby as well!
His account of that is HERE. It was fun explaining what was going on to him, and by the end of the bout he was cheering all on his own and seemed to actually enjoy the derby! Plus I am now forever a rock star for getting NRG to take a picture with Neil.

It should also be mentioned that before the derby, Neil hung me upside down by my ankles. Not as some part of gothic torture mind you. He put together an inversion table, Daisy and I were hanging out and watching him and his friend Dr. Dan work on it, and giggling at the British accent meets instruction manual we were hearing. Then Neil said, “Joan how much do you weigh?” When I told him, he said, “Yup. You’re the lightest, get on. Lets make sure it doesn’t fall apart”.

Since I didn’t die, he decided it was safe for everyone else, and we all had a go!

I stayed with Lorraine over the weekend, and her pretty kitties. No, that’s not a euphemism for anything, look!

We not only worked out like mad, went horse back riding (I fell off, but got a free hat, so THAT’S okay)but we wandered into the woods. We saw the White Witch and Mr. Tumnus…

And I proved that Lola CAN be noble…

Until she sees something shiny…

and starts a snow fight with Cabal

And this. THIS is why I want to move north.

It also doesn’t hurt that my friend is there. And living hours and hours away from a friend SUCKS.

Our little gnome friend has survived his move to the great white north.

The weekend was spent with lots of working out, cooking, and skating of course. (there is a bouncy castle in the rink. I kid you not.) Skating ended when some idiot decided to start skating while carrying his NEWBORN BABY! I had a panic attack and was done. I do not want to be in any way responsible for someone hurting their kid in a rink. I swear this happens at every single rink I go to!

Parents, you are not God. You trip, you fall and you can not control the actions of those around you. If you skate while carrying a baby (lets not even get into the whole, in rentals, obviously not a great skater thing) something could happen. DO NOT DO IT!!!!

Right. Back to work. Photo shoots are coming up soon, including an amazing and cool shoot that I’m really, really excited about! But can’t blog about because, you know, you need to see it in the book!

Blog coming. Promise. Spent the weekend with Lorraine, in which we took in the derby with her boss and our friend Daisy.

And spent the rest of the time hanging with Lorraine, cooking lots of healthy food, having her trainer kick my ass, and falling off a pony.

It’s been forever since I’ve done a random picture post!

Here is the lovely Princess, who kept me company at night up North, in the big spooky house that (even though I don’t believe in haunted houses) was totally haunted. She trained me to turn the bathroom faucet on for her, and was totally deaf.

I stole this picture from Lorraine. She took a pic of me with darling Cabal. Who is very noble and wise, and liked to lay down on my foot. All 80 bajillion pounds of him.

This is Starkey. Back when it was warm. Long, long ago. He has hair that would put most metal bands to shame.

This is me, playing against Sioux Falls in a sanctioned scrimmage. We won by 200 points. It was freaking awesome.

Tom Klubens took that photo. He is also pretty awesome.

Right. Back to work with me. I have lots of patterns that need to be triple checked, then sent back to my tech editor. Math. Lots of math to be done.

Any volunteers want to do it for me so I can continue procrastinating? No? Darn.

So, for those of you that don’t follow me on twitter and missed my rant about this, a couple weeks ago Hillbilly kitty decided to climb inside my purse and pee.
On my yarn.
And my money.
And my KINDLE!!!!

Dill took the kindle apart and cleaned it (luckily most of the pee went onto the case) put it in a bag of rice and left it for a couple of days. When he put it back together, it worked!

However I opted not to save the case. It was an ugly green thing that used to be a day planner, I just had ripped out the outdated calendar. Since I needed a new one, I decided to find it on ETSY!!!

I figured it wouldn’t be too hard. I wanted one that zipped on three sides, fit a Kindle 2, had an owl print, and fabric bits at the square to hold the kindle in place.

Okay, so I’m a little specific when I shop.

Luckily, found this site, where they were happy to make one of their cases for the Kindle 2.

I ordered Friday, it showed up Tuesday, and I love it!

Pics!

highly recommend this shop if you’re looking for a kindle case!
